Tustin Unified School District is engaging in an update of the district’s long Range Facilities Master Plan. To do this, the District has brought on Ruhnau Clarke Architects and community engagement and planning specialists Foresight Planning & Development to lead the effort. The 2024 plan builds on the work of the plan developed in 2019, while reflecting the changing needs of the district and new legislative requirements for California K-12 schools.
Since 2019, new legislative regulations have had a direct impact on facilities needs across school districts throughout the state. This includes:
· The expansion of Transitional Kindergarten to include all students eligible for TK by 2026
· The extension of COVID-19 era universal meal policies
· The development of the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program
In addition to these specific program changes, facility master plans are intended to be “living” documents and should be updated regularly to reflect changes in needs, and work completed.
Developing a facility master plan is a participatory process. The planning team has engaged with both internal and external stakeholders to collect input and ideas which will inform the final plan. To date, this has included visioning sessions with district leadership, focus groups with district departments, site walks with site administrators, and in-person engagement meetings with the community. A COMMUNITY SURVEY which solicits input on priorities was launched in May 2024 to collect additional input from as many stakeholders as possible.
